Thursday, 11 February

Saraswati Puja (Vasant Panchami, Magha Shukla Panchami) is on Thursday 11 February 2027. By drikpanchang's Kolkata reckoning the Panchami tithi runs from 3.04 am on the 11th to 3.18 am on the 12th.

The day's customs

Wikipedia's Vasant Panchami page says most schools in West Bengal hold the puja for their students, and that it is the day of hate-khori, a child's first letters. Bengali Wikipedia records the rest: pens, inkpots, books and instruments are worshipped with the goddess, writing is avoided, and students do not eat kul, the sour little jujube, until the puja is done. Yellow is the day's colour. And in Kolkata, as Wikipedia puts it, Saraswati Puja is popularly called the Bengali Valentine's Day: the day of couples out together in kurtas and saris.
